How Anne Hathaway’s Hair Became The Campaign For Her Film “Colossal”

You have probably seen the viral photos that show Anne Hathaway shining on the Cannes Film Festival’s red carpet. What you might not realize is that Hathaway was making her debut at this prestigious festival. The Armageddon Time star’s fashion looks–from a hot pink Valentino to a Armani Prive Column gown–will be remembered forever in Cannes history. But her beauty looks will also be memorable.

Hathaway worked with Adir Abergel, her long-standing hairstylist on three different glamorous styles. Bazaar.com’s Abergel explains that Anne and her hairdresser Adir Abergel have been working together almost 16 years. This was her first time in Cannes. “Cannes is, to me, one of the most epic red-carpets ever. I wanted her that experience.”

The looks Hathaway wore might seem very simple but they were crafted with a lot more thought and planning. Abergel claims that the Cannes red-carpet is unique due to the sheer number and quality of cameras. He said, “I thought about how [the hair] would appear from all angles because the photo call has photographers of all angles.” He explains the process of creating each style below.

A super-smooth hairstyle was first, paired with a similarly sleek Armani Prive gown. Abergel describes this “side-swept and classic blowout as voluminous and sexy hair” look.

Abergel explains that the second style was a “middle parted curtain bang with an voluminous cascading curl half up, half down style.” “The texture was soft with brushed curls.” Abergel says the look was inspired in part by the 1960s heights and the effortlessness that models of that time, such as Jean Shrimpton, Veruschka and Brigitte Barrot, Farrah Fawcett, were able to achieve.

Hathaway’s weekend look, paired with a stunning fall/winter 2022 Valentino Jumpsuit. This look may seem similar to Hathaway’s day one style. However, there is a big difference. The curtain bangs of Hathaway’s hair seem to be disappearing. Abergel said that bangs are very adaptable. “We focused on the middle part of her face with soft, frame-like pieces. It was about creating a lovely silhouette around her face and accentuating her cheekbones.
