Emily Ratajkowski debuts a new fringe on the Cannes red carpet

Emily Ratajkowski knows all about fringe benefits and has tried bangs numerous times.

The model’s bangs can be cut straight into her hair or used to create faux fringes with clip-ins. She has done this at various events and photo shoots.

The Cannes Film Festival was her latest opportunity to show them off. She donned a full fringe on the red-carpet ahead of the Crimes of the Future screening. Ratajkowski looked elegant in a Miu Miu sheer lace Miu Miu dress, and was enhanced by the timeless appeal of a fringe.

You can experiment with clip-ins by listening to the advice of those who know the best. Jennifer Yepez, Ratajkowski’s Cannes hairdresser, did not disclose whether the model’s fringe had been temporary. Adir Abergel, another Hollywood hairdresser, has shared his top tips on fringes with Bazaar before.

He says depending on your style, you can bring out a lot about yourself with a fringe. “Straight across, Betty Page 1940s bang or a choppy, undone fringe – each have their own feeling and you can create your own style.” He said that “it’s just about looking at yourself and framing your face around that.”

A clip-in fringe is a great way to get the perfect color match. You can also use the help of your colourist to find the right colour. Abergel suggests that you make faux bangs by removing enough weight so the ends don’t feel stiff. To avoid making it heavy and blunt, he suggests cutting with scissors.

You should also give your roots some lift, no matter if you’re styling a fake or real fringe. “Flat bangs are not flattering on anyone so you will want to use volumisers on the roots.” The hairdresser sprays a volumising product, such as the Virtue Volumizing Primer, on the roots and then blows it out using the cool shot. This is because “cold-air contracts and gives you more volume.”
