    Do you ever wonder what happened to those celebrities who seemed like they had it all – the money, the fame, and the lifestyle – but then suddenly disappeared from the public eye? Well, a lot of them actually gave up their celebrity status to work regular jobs. Here are some of their stories.

     

    Kevin Jonas – Businessman

    Kevin Jonas is known as one of the famous Jonas Brothers. He starred in a film alongside his brothers and made an appearance on a 2014 episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey.

    Kevin enjoyed his role as a contractor and pursued it further afterward. He is a talented jack of all trades and found a passion for business more than his brothers. He has also created apps such as food app Yood, as well as partnering with video-sharing app We Heart It.

     

    Ariana Richards – Painter

    Ariana Richards is best known for her role as Lex Murphy in the film Jurassic Park, which she also played in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. In 2001, she decided to take a break from her acting career.

    She went to Skidmore College, where she earned a fine arts and drama degree. She also had a minor role in 2013. Mostly, she has been working as a painter rather than bein a high-profile actress.

     

    Melody Anderson – Family Therapy

    Melody Anderson is best known for her role as Dale Arden in the 1980s film Flash Gordon. She also starred alongside Chuck Norris in the 1986 film Firewalker. She had been in the acting industry until 1995 and her last appearance was in Burke’s Law.

    Since then, she went back to school at NYU for social work in 1997. Currently, she specializes in providing family therapy, in addition to lecturing on mental health and substance abuse.

     

    Jamie Walters – Firefighter

    Jamie Walters is best known for his role as Ray Pruit on the television show Beverly Hills, 90210. He also had a music career in the mid-90s that was also successful. He sang the theme song from The Heights, “How Do You Talk to an Angel?”, which went number one on the charts in 1992.

    Additionally, he was the lead role in the Aaron Spelling-produced show, although it was less successful than his role in Beverly Hills, 90210. Since then, he has worked as a firefighter and paramedic in Los Angeles.

     

    Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit – Sound Technician

    Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit is best known for his role as Nicky Banks on the television show Full House alongside his brother Blake. They reprised their roles in the reboot of Full House, and that is their only acting credential.

    Dylan is still involved in the entertainment industry as a sound technician instead of an actor. He’s worked on Game of Thrones, Black Sails, and Death Note, to name a few.

     

    Blake Tuomy-Wilhoit – Sound Technician

    Blake Tuomy-Wilhoit is best known for his role as Zack Banks on the television show Full House with his twin brother Dylan. He also decided to not pursue his acting career after their role as a toddler in Full House.

    Since then, he has been a firefighter in Georgia but eventually became a sound technician like his brother. He had a few roles after the reboot in 2016, but he did not stay in the industry. Since 2018, he has been a Foley mixer, meaning he mixes the everyday sound effects that are added back in post-production.

     

    Daniel Day Lewis – Considered Fashion Designing

    Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the most successful actors of our generation, having won 3 Academy Awards. His shocking departure from Hollywood in 2017 was the end of his career as an actor.

    In an official statement, a representative said that he is no longer interested in working as an actor. His final role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread saw the method actor immerse himself into a number of costume departments. Due to this, he is said to be considering to pursue a career in fashion designing.

     

    Michael Schoeffling – Woodworking Shop Owner

    Michael Schoeffling is best known for his role as the hunky Jake Ryan in the classic 80s film Sixteen Candles starring alongside Molly Ringwald. He pursued his acting career until 1991 when he eventually gave it up.

    Schoeffling was growing his own family, so he decided to find a different career due to financial reasons. Since then, he has been the owner of a woodworking shop, creating his own furniture in Pennsylvania.

     

    Kirk Cameron – Author and Religious Activist

    Kirk Cameron was a teen heartthrob in the 1980s, thanks to his starring role as Mike Seaver on the hit television show Growing Pains. However, these days you’re more likely to find him working on his farm than acting in front of the camera.

    He became a full-time author and engaged in religious activism. It was during his time on Growing Pains that he became a born-again Christian and insisted some of the scripts be changed if he deems it as inappropriate. Cameron now focuses on family-friendly projects, such as producing and starring in the Christian film Fireproof.

     

    Barret Oliver – Photographer

    Barret Oliver was another teen heartthrob of the 1980s, thanks to his roles in films like The Never Ending Story and D.A.R.Y.L, although he did not continue his career in Hollywood during his adult years.

    After he left Hollywood, Oliver began working as a photographer and artist. He decided that acting was not for him and that he preferred being on the other side of the camera. He has also written a book about his experiences growing up in the film industry. He has been successful in his field and his work has been displayed in museums and gallery exhibitions.

     

    Amanda Bynes – Fashion Design

    Jeff Cohen is best known for his role as Chunk in the 1985 film The Goonies, but the child actor did not choose to pursue acting in his adult life. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, and later went on to become a lawyer in Los Angeles.

    These days, he’s a successful entertainment lawyer. He founded his own law firm, Cohen & Gardner, in 2002 and writes for The Huffington Post. He has also written a couple of books, including The Dealmaker’s Ten Commandments: Lessons from Hollywood’s Greatest Negotiator.

     

    Lark Voorhies – Author

    Lark Voorhies rose to fame in the 1990s thanks to her role on the television show Saved by the Bell. However, following her success during the 90’s, she was not to be seen again and pursued a career elsewhere.

    She left Hollywood behind and now focuses on writing self-help books and has since been an accomplished author. She has also dabbled in music, releasing a couple of singles in 2012.

     

    Rick Moranis – Father

    Rick Moranis was a successful actor and comedian in the 1980s and 1990s, thanks to roles in films like Ghostbusters and Spaceballs. He also starred in other Hollywood films such as Little Shop of Horrors, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

    However, In 1991, Rick’s wife sadly passed away. He retired from acting in 1997 to focus on raising his children. He returned to voice acting in the past decade. He has since made a few cameo appearances, but for the most part he stays out of the spotlight these days.

     

    Erik Estrada – Police Officer

    Erik Estrada is best known for his role as Officer Frank Poncherello on the television show CHiPs the hit police TV show from the late ’70s to early ’80s. He also gained 150 credits over the course of his career.

    These days, he’s more likely to be found working as a reserve police officer than acting in front of the camera. He has been sworn in as a police officer in St. Anthony, Idaho, as of July 2016. He has also done some work as a spokesperson for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

     

    Vanilla Ice – Home Improvement

    Vanilla Ice was a successful rapper in the early 1990s, thanks to his hit song “Ice Ice Baby” which was an iconic hit of all time. He won numerous awards for this hit single.

    However, he has since given up music and now focuses on home improvement. He has his own home improvement show on the DIY Network, The Vanilla Ice Project. He also had a book published that teaches how to be successful in real estate.

     

    Gene Hackman – Novelist

    Gene Hackman is a successful actor who has starred in films like The French Connection and Unforgiven. In the 90s, Hackman went on to star in several films, including “Crimson Tide” in 1995. However, he retired from acting in 2004 and now focuses on writing novels. He released his first novel, Wake of the Perdido Star, in 2009. He went on to write three successful novels.

     

    Chris Owen – Bartender

    Chris Owen is best known for his role as Chuck “Sheeny” Gerhardt in the film The Little Rascals. He was also known for his role in American Pie, where he was the Sherminator.

    He still plays in B movies, but these don’t pay the bills and he has been spotted waiting tables at Sushi Roku in L.A. in addition to being a photographer. These days, he works as a bartender at a Hollywood hot spot. He has also done some modeling and voice-over work.

     

    Jon Gosselin – IT Administrator

    Jon Gosselin rose to fame on the reality television show Jon & Kate Plus 8 which became a hit. However, he left the show (and his wife) in 2009 and worked on different careers.

    He’s been a waiter, a DJ, and a cook, juggling several jobs at once to provide for his family. Currently, he’s working as an IT administrator.

     

    Michael Maronna – Electrician

    Michael Maronna is best known for his role as Max in the television show Max and Shirly. He has also had roles in films like The Yards and Big Fat Liar. Michael Maronna played Kevin McCallister’s older brother in the Home Alone movies and big Pete on Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete.

    He hasn’t appeared in a lot of films after that, and instead worked as an electrician on TV shows and movie productions. He maintains a podcast called the Adventures of Danny and Mike with his ex-costar, little Pete actor Danny Tamberelli, as they stayed friends despite all the years that have passed.

     

    Hayden Christensen – Farm Owner

    Hayden Christensen is best known for his role as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels where he gained fame internationally from the franchise. He was also a household name for starring in Life as a House in 2001.

    However, he has since left Hollywood behind and now focuses on his family life. The former actor bought his own farm and also started a clothing company and launched a production company. He and his wife, Rachel Bilson, have a daughter together.

     

    Josh Saviano – Corporate Lawyer

    Josh Saviano is best known for his role as Paul Pfeiffer on the television show The Wonder Years during the 80’s. He only had a few roles in film and television and he was not to stay in the acting world much longer following the end of The Wonder Years.

    He’s now a successful corporate lawyer. He graduated from Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2006 and now works at a New York law firm. He also appeared as a guest in Law & Order in 2016.

     

    MC Hammer – Philanthropist

    MC Hammer was a successful rapper in the late 1980s and early 1990s, thanks to hits like “U Can’t Touch This.” However, he struggled to manage his finances properly so he filed for bankruptcy in 1996 and has since focused on philanthropy.

    He runs a website called MCHammer.com, which is dedicated to helping others achieve their dreams. He also officiates weddings, lectures at Ivy League Schools, and is working on developing iPad Apps. He’s also embarking on a 90s nostalgia tour.

     

    Peter Ostrum – Veterinarian

    Peter Ostrum is best known for his role as Charlie Bucket in the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. This was Ostrum’s first and last role in Hollywood. It was not the path he followed so he left acting behind and now works as a veterinarian.

    His focus turned to animals, and he now resides in New York state, where he works as a vet specializing in large animals. He has also done some work as a spokesperson for the American Veterinary Medical Association.

     

    Andrew Shue – Blogger

    Andrew Shue is best known for his role as Billy Campbell on the television show Melrose Place. However, he left Hollywood in the early 2000s to focus on social activism. He became one of the world’s most famous mommy bloggers.

    The former actor co-founded CaféMom alongside his childhood best friend, Michael Sanchez. CaféMom is a social networking site that focuses on the interests of women and the site delivers parenting content and is a platform for help, advice, and recommendations.

     

    Tom Selleck – Ranch Owner

    Tom Selleck is best known for his role as Magnum P.I. in the 1980s television series of the same name. He was iconic for his mustache and was a TV superstar. He won numerous awards from his time in the hit show and fulfilled his acting years.

    However, he has since retired from acting and now focuses on his ranch in California. He also does some work as a spokesperson for the National Rifle Association.

     

    Mike Vitar – Firefighter

    Mike Vitar is best known for his role as Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez in the film The Sandlot. He also starred in several notable films in the 90s like the hit movie The Mighty Ducks. However, he left acting behind and now works as a firefighter.

    He has been a member of the Los Angeles Fire Department since 2004. The former actor ran into legal trouble in 2015, as he and his co-workers were charged with misdemeanor battery after assaulting someone.

     

    Angus T. Jones – Member of the Seventh-day Adventists Church

    Angus T. Jones is best known for his role as the funny kid Jake Harper on the television show Two and a Half Men, even continuing his starring role in the show into his teen years. However, he left the show in 2012 after declaring it “filth” and now focuses on his Christian faith.

    Jones decided to become a member of the Seventh-day Adventists Church, and has since joined the management team for an event production called Tonite. He also does some work as a spokesperson for an organization called Forerunner Chronicles.

     

    Karyn Parsons – Company Founder

    Karyn Parsons is best known for her role as Hilary Banks on the television show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starring alongside Will Smith. She had a few more acting stints after that, however, she left Hollywood in the late 1990s to focus on her charity work.

    She is the founder of Sweet Blackberry, an organization that produces films about African-American history and funds animated films about unsung black heroes.

     

    Jack Gleeson – Student

    Jack Gleeson is best known for his role as Joffrey Baratheon on the television show Game of Thrones for three years. It was one of the biggest shows at that moment.

    However, he left the show in 2014 after being killed off in the series and has since retired from acting. He is currently a student at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland studying philosophy and theology.

     

    Mara Wilson – Writer

    Mara Wilson is best known for her roles in films like Matilda and Mrs. Doubtfire in the 90s. However, she left Hollywood in the early 2000s and now focuses on writing.

    She has written a memoir called Where Am I Now? as well as a children’s book series called The Cookie Jar. These days, Mara has been finding sporadic work as an actress, while spending most of her focus on her new profession as a writer.

     

    Agnetha Faltskog – Hobbyist

    Agnetha Faltskog was a member of the Swedish pop group ABBA, one of the biggest bands of all time. After the band broke up in 1982 and her subsequent solo career, she has since retired from the music industry.

    She bought an isolated country house in Sweden to focus on the things that meant most to her. Falskog spent her time in Ekero studying astrology, doing yoga, and riding horses. She now lives a reclusive lifestyle on an island off the coast of Sweden.

     

    Danny Lloyd – Biology Teacher

    Danny Lloyd is best known for his role as the young boy Danny Torrance in the film The Shining. He retired from acting two years after The Shining release, at which time he was only eight-years-old.

    Erik Per Sullivan is best known for his role as Dewey in the television show Malcolm in the Middle. However, he left acting behind and now focuses on his studies.

    After finishing his time on Malcolm in the Middle at age 14, his last role on screen was in 2006, and he has not made any television appearances since then. He is currently a student at the University of Southern California.

     

    Phoebe Cates – Mother

    Phoebe Cates is best known for her role as Linda Barrett in the film Fast Times at Ridgemont High in the 80s. However, she left Hollywood in the early 1990s and now focuses on her family.

    Cates also pursued other work and does a lot of charity work to raise awareness for Juvenile Diabetes. She is married to actor Kevin Kline and has two children.

     

    Charlie Korsmo – Lawyer

    Charlie Korsmo is best known for his roles in films like Dick Tracy and Hook. He is remembered for his role as Jack in Steven Spielberg’s film. He also starred alongside big stars Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman.

    Isaac Lidsky – Lawyer

    Isaac Lidsky is best known for his role as Weasel on the television show Saved by the Bell: The New Class. After his acting stint on the show, he was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa. Eventually, he became blind, but it didn’t stop him from achieving the extraordinary.

    He enrolled in Harvard when he was 15 and graduated with degrees in applied math and computer science. He went back and got a law degree, eventually becoming the first legally blind Supreme Court clerk. Aside from being a lawyer, he also started several successful businesses.

     

    Maia Brewton – Lawyer

    Maia Brewton is best known for her role as the little sister in Adventures in Babysitting and as the younger sister of Lorraine Baines who places Marty McFly’s mother in the iconic movie Back to the Future.

    After being a child actor, she went to school at Yale and studied Theater. She also worked as a bartender for some time but went back to school and studied law. She now works as a lawyer living in Manhattan with her partner and children.

     

    Steven Anthony Lawrence – Teaching Seminars

    Steven Anthony Lawrence is best known for his role as Beans on the television show Even Stevens, starring alongside Shia LaBeouf. The show ran from 2001 until 2003, and it was his last iconic role.

    Sarah Michelle Gellar – Businesswoman

    However, she has left television behind and now focuses on her family. In 2015, she founded startup company Foodstirs, which focuses on selling baking kits to children. She is married to actor Freddie Prinze Jr. and has two children.

     

    Freddie Prinze Jr. – Father

    Freddie Prinze Jr. is best known for his roles in films like I Know What You Did Last Summer and She’s All That. He was one of the most iconic male teen stars in the 90s.

    She left Hollywood behind and now works as a writer. She graduated in 2010 with a sociology degree from the University of Virginia. She is the author of two books, You Look Like That Girl and Not Just Me.

     

    Travis Tedford – Marketing Specialist

    Travis Tedford is best known for his role as the adorable child Spanky in the film The Little Rascals in 1994. In the same year, he became Welch’s first “advertisement spokeskid.”

    After leaving his acting career, he chose a more humble job. He works as a tour guide and actually gives tours of the actual set of the show he has previously worked on.

     

    Noah Hathaway – Tattoo Artist

    Noah Hathaway is best known for his role as Atreyu in the classic 80s film The NeverEnding Story. After that role, he focused on different fields of career and left the acting industry.

    The former child actor once became a dance instructor, competed in supersport motorcycle racing, and eventually became a tattoo artist.

    Willa Ford was once a successful pop star back in her days as a musician. In 2001, the singer’s single “I Wanna Be Bad” reached No. 22 in the Billboard Hot 100. She released her second single after that, but it never gained the same success as the first one.

    She stepped away from the music industry and worked full-time as an interior designer. She is now a founder of her own company WFord Interiors which is based in Los Angeles and she is also the head designer.

     

    Mackenzie Rosman – Philanthropist

    Mackenzie Rosman is the sweet child actress best known for her role as Ruthie Camden on the television show 7th Heaven. She was well-liked for that role and has always been remembered for it.

    After her acting stint in the show, she has since not been casted into anything. These days she has been a philanthropist and uses her time to do good for the world. She also serves as the chairman of CureFinders, which raises money for cystic fibrosis research.

     

    Leanna Creel – Businesswoman

    Leanna Creel is best known for her role as Tori Scott on the television show Saved by the Bell. She also starred in the show Beverly Hills, 90210, and that was all of her acting credits. She stepped away from acting and now works as a businesswoman.

    She is one of the co-founders of Creel Studio, a company that specializes in travel, food, and lifestyle. She also has developed a passion for photography over the years.

     

    Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen – Fashion Designers

    Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are best known for their role as Michelle Tanner on the television show Full House. The twins’ little sister Elizabeth Olsen is currently a big star in the industry, while Mary-Kate and Ashley chose a different path in their careers.

    They left Hollywood behind over a decade ago and now work as fashion designers. They are currently the owners of a clothing line called The Row.

     

    Portia de Rossi – Philanthropist

    Portia de Rossi is best known for her role as Nelle Porter on the television show Ally McBeal. She also starred in the series Arrested development. She had a successful acting career over the years and also tied the knot with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

    However, she stepped away from her acting career and now works as a philanthropist. De Rossi has embarked on many charitable endeavors, having supported organizations such as Locks of Love and FXB International.

     

    Jessica Sierra – Barmaid

    Jessica Sierra is best remembered for being a contestant on the television show American Idol. After competing in the popular singing contest, Sierra has not continued on with her singing career.

    Over the years, the former singer had a lot of problems being involved in several legal issues. She now works at a bar to make ends meet.

     

    David Caruso – Businessman

    David Caruso is best known for his role as Lieutenant Horatio Caine on the television show CSI: Miami, which has been influential in the world of crime dramas for a few decades.

    After the show’s cancellation, he now works as a businessman. Since then, he has founded DavidCarusoTelevision.tv and LexiconDigital.tv. He is even the co-owner of South Miami clothing store Steam on Sunset.

     

    Jonathan Taylor Thomas – Student/Writer

    Jonathan Taylor Thomas had a successful acting career in the 90s and is best known for his role as Randy on the television show Home Improvement. He also lent his voice for the role of Simba in the popular film The Lion King.

    He left being a child actor and pursued being a student and writer. He enrolled in Harvard University and studied philosophy and history. He also studied General Studies at Columbia University.
