It’s safe for us to say that Anne Hathaway is already a strong participant in the first Cannes Film Festival. The actress, who made her first appearance on the French red carpet, managed to stand out among the hundreds of beautiful gowns at this week’s festival. Hathaway, Jeremy Strong and James Gray were there to support her at the premiere of Armageddon Time on Thursday. Hathaway hired Giorgio Armani to create a customized look for her Cannes debut. The two-piece set featured a very high waist column skirt, bandeau and bandeau with white sequins. The shawl was large and bow-shaped, which fell around Hathaway’s shoulders. It also ran down her back, adding drama. The Mediterranean Reverie necklace, which was attached around her neck and features a Sri Lankan royal blue cushion cut sapphire, was the real star.
Hathaway knew what she wanted before she went to Cannes to pick her first Cannes gown. People told her that she had been watching the film festival’s fashion for decades. “And that’s when I noticed some things you can’t go wrong.” She explained to People that she observed white-clad celebrities at Cannes. “So that’s what I did.”
Hathaway used all her expertise to create a look that was adored by Twitter. Erin Walsh is her stylist. However, the actress/stylist duo has more Cannes options than this dress. On Thursday, Hathaway was seen wearing a vibrant organza blouse with matching trousers to balance out her all white ensemble. The Schiaparelli spring 2022 collection by Daniel Roseberry features a shirt and pants with a high waist, multicolored sequins and a floral pattern.
Hathaway didn’t stop there. On Friday, she continued her Cannes fashion streak with a Gucci black-and-blue mini dress. It featured a skirt covered with black sequins as well as a latex bustier and conic breast cups.
While Hathaway has been having a great time at Cannes fashion-wise, her movie is also holding its own. Armageddon Time, a semi-autobiographical story of Gray’s upbringing, which tells “a deeply personal coming-of-age story about the strength of family and the generational pursuit of the American Dream,” got a seven-minute standing ovation when it premiered at the festival, one that left both Hathaway and Gray in tears, according to Variety. It’s safe for us to say Hathaway has had a great first Cannes. This should mean that we will see Annie in France more often in the future.
