10 Simple Ways to Follow if You Want to Live to 100

    Eat Your Fruits and Veggies

You know you’ve been told to eat your fruits and vegetables all your life, but do you really know why?

You can thank antioxidants for their vibrant pigments. These compounds, which are found in tea, vegetables and fruits as well as colorful produce like blueberries, raspberries and strawberries, help fight free radicals—the chemicals that cause disease by attacking healthy cells in the body. But don’t just go chowing down on any old fruit or veggie! The most effective way to boost your intake of antioxidants is through a diet rich in colorful produce (like blueberries) and green tea.

    Find Purpose in Life

Defining purpose is a bit more difficult than it seems. Some people believe that purpose is the same thing as goals, meaning, mission or vocation. Others believe that purpose can be found in work and roles. But we’re here to tell you: none of these things are your purpose in life.

The difference between “purpose” and all those other terms is simple: A goal is something you want to achieve (like being an astronaut), meaning is what makes life meaningful (like helping others), a mission tells you what your role on Earth is (such as protecting endangered species), while a vocation has everything to do with finding fulfilling work (such as being an actor). When someone says their goal was achieved but they feel empty inside or unfulfilled by their work—they may be lacking in some kind of deep sense of what drives them forward every day without fail—this could indicate they have not yet found their true purpose!

Don’t Smoke, or Quit If You Do

If you want to live to 100, don’t smoke. Ever. Smoking is the biggest cause of preventable death in the world, and it’s no different here in the U.S., where almost half a million people die from smoking-related illnesses every year. This means that if you smoke, there’s a 50 percent chance that your life will be cut short by at least 10 years—and those are just some of the many reasons why you should quit smoking for good or never pick up another cigarette in the first place!

Smoking damages your DNA and causes infertility, erectile dysfunction and wrinkles on top of all these other health problems: heart disease (the leading cause of death worldwide), strokes (second only behind Alzheimer’s Disease as one of America’s biggest killers), peripheral artery disease (PAD) which increases risk for diabetes-related amputations by 60 percent compared with non-smokers over age 65; and so much more!

    Keep Stress at Bay

There are a few simple things you can do to help keep stress at bay.

First, find an appropriate balance between work and relaxation. If your job is stressful, try meditating or using exercise to relieve stress. Second, maintain a positive attitude and stay connected with your family while they are still alive. Third, keeping a journal is another effective way to get things off your chest without having to burden others with them (unless it’s someone who understands).

    Control Blood Pressure and Cholesterol

Blood pressure is the force exerted by circulating blood against arterial walls. It’s measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and represents the amount of pressure, or resistance, that blood exerts at each heartbeat.

Cholesterol is a fatty substance produced by the body which allows it to transport fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) into cells. A healthy amount of cholesterol is necessary for normal body function; however, high levels of cholesterol can lead to plaque buildup inside your arteries and increase your risk for heart disease.[1]

    Exercise Regularly Throughout Life

As you get older, it is more important than ever to exercise regularly. Exercise not only helps keep your body fit and healthy, but also reduces stress and makes you feel younger. What kinds of exercise are best for a long life?

    How much should you do?

How often should you exercise? What kinds of exercises can help with memory loss as we age? How does regular physical activity affect brain health in older adults who have mild cognitive impairment (MCI)?

    The answers may surprise you!

    Socialize

You should have a circle of friends. People who can help you if you need it, and vice versa.

Your family is important to you, so stay in touch with them.

Don’t just sit at home by yourself all day–do things with other people.

    Get Enough Sleep

If you want to live to 100, there’s one thing that you absolutely must do: get enough sleep.

The National Sleep Foundation recommends that adults get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Staying within this range is crucial for staying healthy and maintaining a healthy weight, as well as managing blood sugar levels. Studies have shown that people who get less than 6 hours of sleep each night are twice as likely to develop type 2 diabetes, compared with those who consistently get 7-8 hours per night. When you’re getting enough sleep, it’s easier for your body to maintain a normal blood sugar level because it won’t produce so much insulin at night when it usually isn’t needed as much (it also won’t produce less during the day when it would normally be helpful).

    Follow a Mediterranean-Type Diet

    • Follow a Mediterranean-type diet. The Mediterranean diet is based on foods that were traditionally eaten in the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. It includes high-fiber fruits, vegetables and whole grains; nuts; seeds; legumes, such as peas and beans; fish and poultry; olive oil or canola oil as your main sources of fat. People following this type of eating pattern tend to have lower rates of obesity, heart disease, cancer and dementia than those who don’t consume these foods regularly.
    • Be active every day. Regular physical activity helps reduce stress levels, improve mood and relieve pain caused by chronic conditions such as arthritis or back pain. It also helps you manage your weight better by burning calories while boosting metabolism so you burn more calories throughout the day without feeling like you’re working out too hard when you’re not!

    Focus on Happiness

Happiness is a choice, not a feeling. You have to work at it and make it your priority. It’s easy to forget that you can always choose happiness over unhappiness, so it’s important to choose happiness when you’re feeling down or overwhelmed.

Choose the little things that make you happy and start there. If you’re feeling stressed out, take a deep breath and count three things around you that are beautiful—the view from your window or a flower in bloom outside—and remember them when stress begins creeping back into the picture again later on today.

Remembering the people who love us makes us feel good about ourselves; we don’t need any other reason for doing this act of kindness with those closest around us! It is better than any medicine money can buy because it works 24/7!

The key is to adopt a lifestyle that keeps you healthy.

We all know the importance of a healthy lifestyle. If you are looking to live a long and prosperous life, then it is important that you adopt as healthy a lifestyle as possible. A healthy diet is one of the most important things in achieving this goal. The key is to avoid foods that can damage your body or lead to chronic illness such as diabetes or heart disease. When choosing what foods to eat, it is always best to choose organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible because these foods do not contain pesticides which can be harmful when consumed over time. Another aspect of adopting a healthy lifestyle involves exercise; regular exercise will help keep your muscles strong and prevent muscle atrophy over time. Finally, practicing good hygiene habits including brushing teeth regularly every morning before breakfast can help prevent cavities from forming on teeth leading them needing dental work down the road which could lead up costing thousands if not tens of thousands dollars depending on severity level.”
